"Nobody knew what way
this Opera would develop:
This was revealed to us gradually, through the circumstances,
with the passage of time.
Even the structure
of the movement, more than being suggested to us by
human ideas, was inspired by a charism that is a gift of God".

Chiara Lubich

tabAt the beginning of the '40's, Chiara Lubich, little more than 20 years old, was working in the primary schools of Trent, her native city; and was registered in the faculty of Philosophy in the University of Venice. Then in the midst of the climate of hate and violence of the Second World War, and the collapse of everything, driven by the thirst for truth, she discovers God as the only Ideal which remains. God, who she discovered was Love, was to illuminate and transform her existence and that of many others, and to show them the meaning of their lives: to work together for the realisation of the words of Jesus' testament - "That all may be one".

With time it became clear that God's original project was expressed in those words: to bring together the human family in unity.

tabIn these years we see the beginning of a story in which the first indications of future developments were contained.
In little more than 50 years, from the experience of living the Gospel on a daily basis, a current of spirituality - the spirituality of unity - has been born, which has given rise to a movement of spiritual and social renewal of world-wide dimensions: The Focolare Movement.
